Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1056 was formed in 1935 to represent the 3,100 union members serving the north and south Queens communities. We represent Bus Operators, Bus Maintainers, Maintainer Helpers, Car Cleaners, Stockroom Handlers, and Plant & Equipment employees.
As part of the largest international labor union with more than 200,000 members representing transit and allied workers in the U.S. and Canada, Local 1056 fights for the interests of our hard-working members and their families. We encourage the use of mass transit throughout Queens and the entire New York City metropolitan area.
Public transportation is evolving with a new generation of electric buses and automated systems sure to change the transportation system. Local 1056 looks forward to working with local leaders and the community to ensure the future of New York City transportation remains one of the best in the nation.
